DCA is the closest airport to downtown DC. The trip from DCA to the Mayflower is 10 minutes by car and 30 minutes by Metro rail.
The travel time from Dulles to DC is about 35 minutes by car. Note that Metro rail doesn't yet extend to Dulles, so a carpool or Uber is the best bet after landing.
BWI is another great option for additional flights. The airport is 45 minutes from DC by car.
